The ENS Name That Doubles as an Identity
A human-readable name on a blockchain, in place of a long string of characters, is a convenience and, often, a quiet act of identification. Where that name resembles a real one, or is used publicly, it becomes a bridge between an address and a person.
The bridge runs both ways. The name resolves to an address, so anyone who knows the name can read the holdings; and the address is tied to the name, so anyone who sees a transaction sees the label. Convenience and exposure are the same feature.
People compound this by using the name everywhere: a social profile, a signature, a donation, a public post. Each use confirms the link, until the name functions as a full identity that carries a visible balance behind it.
The useful discipline is to treat such a name as public identity, not as a private address, and to keep anything meant to stay unlinked well away from it. A memorable name is memorable to everyone.
We map where a client's on-chain names tie to their holdings and their identity, so the convenience does not quietly become the disclosure.
